Our values

We have expressed our values as statements, each illustrated by proverbs from Estonian folk tradition.

We believe that

Every person is unique, and so are their needs for growth.

  • Every bird flies where its beak points.
  • Many heads, many minds; many hands, many tasks.

Cooperation is a value: everyone has something to give and something to gain.

  • Many heads are still many heads.
  • One gives a thread, another gives a thread, and together they make a skirt.
  • Help from a mouse, help from a mouse's child.

People take both themselves and others into account.

  • First know yourself, then others.
  • Everyone knows where their own shoe pinches.
  • As you treat others, so will others treat you.
  • Whoever tries to please everyone pleases no one.
  • What you sow on others, you reap from yourself.

Human relationships are the foundation of happiness. Communication can be learned.

  • The power of a word is greater than the power of an army.
  • What comes from the heart goes to the heart.

No one may use violence against another (physical or mental).

  • Sow good and good will grow.
  • Do good and you will find good.
  • Better a bowl of broth eaten in peace than a cauldron of soup eaten in strife.
  • The tongue has killed more people than the axe.
  • The blows of a beating land on the body, but the blows of words go right through it.
  • Blows of words sometimes hurt more than blows of the hand.

Enterprise makes for a better life.

  • Whoever won't jump into the water will never learn to swim.
  • If you want to catch the goat, grab it by the horns.

Creativity helps us cope with change and brings a sense of fulfilment.

  • A maker makes something even out of nothing.
  • A wise man squeezes bread even out of a stone.

Inner motivation is the most powerful engine of a person's growth.

  • Your own will is what matters most.
  • Master of your own mind, king of your own head.
  • Wisdom can't be ladled into your head.

We learn responsibility by taking responsibility.

  • Everyone is the smith of their own fortune.

Learning is a joy and lasts a lifetime!

  • Rich is the one who has learned much.
  • Live to learn and learn to live.
  • A person is a schoolboy for eighty years.

We all learn from one another.

  • The work for another, the lesson for yourself.

Mistakes are part of learning.

  • No one becomes wise without first having been foolish.
  • Whoever does things will have things happen.
  • Doing it yourself works better than knowing how it was done.
  • You can't become a blacksmith on the sofa.

Future-oriented education needs effective tools.

  • Don't try to catch a crane with an axe.
